Parent Volunteer Opportunities

September 4, 2017

Hello All,

With the first few weeks of racing comes opportunities for parents to volunteer in supporting our student-athletes. I am reaching out to compile a list of parents who can help on the following meets/days:

Wednesday, September 6: KingCo 2 Mile Class Races

– Each KingCo school participating in the meet is responsible for supplying 2 volunteers to assist with monitoring the course. The window of time we need to staff is approximately 4:00-7:30pm (first race goes off at 4:30p and last race starts at 6:50pm – volunteers will need to be present in advance of the first race for volunteer briefing and station assignment).

Wednesday, September 13: Newport Home Tri Meet at Kelsey Creek Park

– We are hosting a tri meet with two other high school teams at our “home course” location of Kelsey Creek Park. We will be responsible for all course set up, course monitoring, finish chute organization and results collection, and course take down.

– Our biggest needs are for course monitors and finish chute crew, with a volunteer window of 4:00-6:00pm.

– It would be a bonus to have parents willing to help with flagging and cone setup in the hours before the meet starts (estimate 2/2:30pm start to setup if the park will not let us place flagging the night before), and/or make quick work of tear down after the last racer finishes.

Wednesday, September 20: Newport Home Tri Meet at Kelsey Creek Park

– We are hosting a tri meet with two other high school teams at our “home course” location of Kelsey Creek Park. We will be responsible for all course set up, course monitoring, finish chute organization and results collection, and course take down.

Saturday, October 21: KingCo League Championships

– Each KingCo school participating in the meet is responsible for supplying 2 volunteers to assist with monitoring the course. The window of time we need to staff is TBD (race organizers have not finalized the day’s race schedule yet).

Parents interested in volunteering should complete the Bellevue School District volunteer application: http://www.bsd405.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/Volunteer-Packet-Parent.pdf?x27100

Please also let me know you specific day/time availability and I will add you to my volunteer list. Specific information for each set of volunteers will precede each meet.

Thank you in advance for all of your help!

XC Team Document – Fall Parent Night Follow-Up

August 29, 2017

Dear Cross Country Parents,

Thank you for your patience as I have sorted out my Outlook mailing list for Cross Country. This mailing list should now include all of the primary and secondary emails I received from athlete registration, as well as the few additional emails that I have been requested to add. As always, please let me know if I have missed anyone and I will continue to troubleshoot.

Last night’s Fall Sports Parent Night was a great success. Thank you to all who came out to join us  and share in the program we are developing for our student-athletes. We look forward to a season of cooperatively supporting our runners as they grow as athletes and young people.

A packet of team information was referenced and sent home at this meeting. I have attached a downloadable version to this email for those who did not receive a hard copy. Additional packets will also be available for students to pick up today at practice. IMPORTANT: A signed athlete participation contract and parent policy agreement must be returned to the coaching staff before an athlete may compete in their first race. This form is the top page of the packet.

A link to the package can also be found here.

Thank you all for your support. Go Knights!

Mandatory Parent Meeting Tonight

Parents, please attend the mandatory parent meeting tonight at 7 pm at Newport HS.

Instead of holding a time-consuming fundraiser, the Booster Club is asking parents to pay $75 to go toward purchasing race day snacks, holding the end of season banquet, helping to organize the summer camp, and raising funds to fill gaps, such as for uniforms. We also have a wish list from the coaches.

Please bring your checkbook tonight, or you can pay via Pay Pal.

Thank you!

Welcome Cross Country Parents! (Reminder)

Welcome Cross Country Parents!

Below is a reminder about the Monday 8/28 Parent Night for families whose students have joined Cross Country this past week:

Coach Lafler and I are very excited to see so many enthusiastic student-athletes turning out for their first cross country season alongside our retuning veterans. We are thrilled to have the opportunity to push ourselves individually and as a team over the next few months. As coaches, we believe both in building a fun and supportive community within our team, and also working hard to surprise ourselves with what we can achieve.

The students are getting their first introduction to our team expectations and coaching philosophy over this initial work of practice. We also believe it is important to communicate these expectations and our perspective on coaching with parents and families.

This coming Monday, August 28th, is Newport High School’s Fall Sports Parent Night at 7pm in the Gym. This meeting night is MANDATORY for all parents of fall athletes.

At this meeting, our Athletic Director will be communicating important information regarding all athletic programs, followed by an opportunity for individual sports to meet with their parents. The cross country meeting will include an overview of what we expect from our athletes and how families can support their student in having a successful season. We also hope to start the process of approving interested parents as official Newport High School volunteers to help out at home meets.

Please plan ahead to attend the full parent night, including the cross country portion, as we will be passing out information packets to families that include an athlete participation contract and parent policy agreement. This form MUST BE signed by both students and parents and returned to the cross country coaching staff prior to an athlete’s first race.

Coach Lafler and I look forward to meeting you all on Monday, August 28th at the Parent Night.

Cheers,
