Just a few updates for the upcoming week of cross country. We had a great first week!

Practice Schedule: 3pm each day
Monday - Robinswood
Tuesday - Robinswood
Wednesday - NHS track
Thursday - Robinswood
Friday - Wilburton

NOTE: Thursday's location is subject to change. I will let you know ASAP. We MAY be having a representative from Brooks come to talk to the kids about choosing appropriate running and racing shoes. More info to follow.
Remember, if you need to arrange a carpool for this week speak to one of the coaches or a captain.

Transportation once school starts:
We will continue having off-site practices 2-3 times per week once school starts. This is an important part of our program because it allows athletes to avoid injury by running on soft ground. It also helps to simulate the kind of running that the athletes will do in races. However, transportation can be complicated if we don't work together. We will discuss carpooling at the parent meeting. If we get a group of parent volunteers together no one family has to feel burdened by carpooling others, and all the athletes get the benefit on running on nice soft trails rather than pounding the pavement and inhaling exhaust fumes around Factoria every day.

In order to participate in carpools all athletes will need the appropriate permission slips. A link has been provided on the Newport XC website for the following permissions slips: student driver (with license for over six months), parent driver, student riding with parent other than their own, and student riding with student. http://www.newportxc.com/forms

We will begin collecting permission slips this week. No student will be allowed to carpool without a permission slip once school starts. When filling out the permission slips please use the following: location = off-site practice, dates = 2007 cross country season

Parent Meeting: Tuesday August 28th
- Large group meeting for all sports starting at 7PM in the NHS main gym. Students are welcome for this portion. There will be a guest speaker.
- Sports specific meetings start at 8pm.

First Meets:
- Thursday Sept 6th. Kingco Jamboree at Lake Sammamish State Park. Races will be divided by grade at this meet. Freshmen (boys and girls) race first at 4pm. Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors will follow approximately every half hour.

- Saturday September 8th. Edmonds Invitational at Edmonds School District Stadium.
The bus leaves for this meet at 6:30 am from Newport HS (124th Street)
The JV race starts at 8 am (ALL non varsity athletes race in this JV race)
Races for the top 10 boys and girls begin at 9:15.
