Hi all.
I've done my best to clean up the email list so far. But if you still know someone who isn't getting email, or if you are getting this email and do not want to, please let me know.
Congrats on a great week to all! Attendance has been awesome despite the fact that we haven't been in school, and our performance that the Jamboree suggests good things to come this season.
JAMBOREE!!
We had a great first week at the Jamboree. We were especially excited for the athletes who ran their first race EVER on Thursday. Results are available at http://www.athletic.net/CrossCountry/School.aspx?SchoolID=412
NEXT WEEK'S SCHEDULE:
Monday - Wilburton Park practice for all athletes who have their forms in. If you do NOT have carpool forms in please go to http://www.newportxc.com/forms, download the forms and bring them to me BEFORE 3:15 tomorrow (as long as school opens that is). We do need to get to Wilburton b/c we are racing there on Wednesday.
Tuesday - practice at NHS track AND team pictures. Please bring your uniforms. Order forms for pictures will be made available at practice on Monday.
Wednesday - Meet at Wilburton Park!!! The meet starts at 4 pm and will follow the same schedule as the Jamboree. We do need as many parents as possible to help out at the meet. If parents are available to help it would be great if you could arrive at Wilburton at 3:15 so that we can let you know where to be on the course etc.
Thursday - Practice at Robinswood Park
Friday - team members going to Salt Creek will leave at 2pm. Other athletes are expected to run on their own (no practice).
Saturday - Salt Creek Invitational
INFORMATION ON UPCOMING SATURDAY RACES:
For new families: We will be racing the next three Saturdays at events called "invitationals." The term does not mean that athletes must be invited to participate, it is just a term used to differentiate the larger meets that we'll run on the weekends. These meets include schools for many different leagues, school sizes and even states. They give the athletes an opportunity to experience competition at a high level and prepare for the important meets at the end of the season. Here is some key info on each race:
September 20th - Salt Creek Invitational - This race is a tradition for Newport XC and gives a group of athletes the opportunity to take and overnight trip to Port Angeles and run in a great meet. Because we have over 150 athletes on the team we regret that we cannot make this trip available to everyone. The chance to travel to Port Angeles is offered to the top 20 athletes on each team. While not all athletes may be able to go this year, making the trip next year can become a goal for younger athletes and can encourage summer training!
Athletes making the trip will leave school at 2pm on Friday and take a charter bus to Port Angeles. Families of athletes participating will receive a separate email with phone numbers, hotel info, etc. The trip will cost $75 per athlete to cover transportation and hotel (it got more expensive this year with fuel costs etc.)
September 27th - NIKE Prenationals - ALL athletes are invited to participate in the Nike Meet. This meet take place down in Portland, OR and offers races by grade for JV athletes in addition to the varsity races. However, because the races are spread out throughout the day we will not be taking a bus down to Portland. Last year we put together parent carpools for each race and it worked out very well. We are going to try to replicate that process this year. More info to come shortly.
October 4th - Sunfair Invitational - We have not gone to Sunfair in a few years b/c of conflict with Homecoming and the Nike meet. However, those conflicts don't exist this year so we can go! Sunfair takes place out in Yakima, and we will take a charter bus. All varsity athletes should attend (although we know a few have SATs or other major conflicts). Other athletes are encouraged to go as well. We are taking ONE charter bus, so we will be doing sign ups for non-varsity athletes in the next week.
